You started preschool this year. Nothing much, just two days a week for two hours a day. You are learning things like the alphabet. In fact, every week you learn a new letter. This week you are on F. You are learning how to color and trying to stay in lines. You get to go to the gym and play and from what you tell me, that is your favorite. Well, favorite aside from one other thing...Bodey. I told you about Bodey before preschool started. I'm friends with his mom and we play soccer together. You were pretty excited to meet Bodey and I was hopeful that he'd be as cool as I amped him up to be.
And then school started. The first few days seemed a little unsure. You told Bodey he had to share with his little brother, and I'm not sure that went over very well (and it was funny to me because you aren't always the best about sharing with your little sister). But, since about the third day, you and Bodey have become inseparable. Literally.
Bodey's mom invited you over to play after preschool one day. You had to wait a whole week before the play date and every day you asked if you got to go to Bodey's house yet. The anticipation of playing with another kid's toys was eating away at you.

The day finally came. Tuesday. Playdate with Bodey. After preschool, Nana got you, brought you to the Print Shop and helped Bodey's mom load you guys into the car, and away you went. To Bodey's house. Let me clarify. To Bodey's FARM. I can only imagine the look on your face driving down their driveway seeing all the tractors and cows and chickens. We live on a "farm" but just a "hay farm." Bodey lives on a FARM. Bodey's mom told me that you were so excited, she drove you around the farm to show you all the tractors and that you told her what implements Papa Eric has. They had a big round baler; Papa Eric's is a small square baler. They had John Deere tractors; Papa Eric has New Holland tractors and doesn't like John Deere tractors, but you like John Deere tractors.
I'm not sure how all the rest of the day transpired. For the first time ever, you were at a friend's house and I was at home wondering. A few texts back and forth with Bodey's mom and it sounded as if the day was a success. You two played together and did not have a single disagreement. You played with toy tractors and fences, got to climb on and look at real tractors, collected eggs from the chickens, played "camping" in Bodey's bedroom and even got his sleeping bag out to sleep. It sounded like a blast.
When I came to pick you up eight hours later, you were having so much fun still that you did not want to come home. Once I finally corralled you into the car, you fell asleep less than five minutes into the drive home, dirty, hungry, and totally exhausted.

How fun. Of course, when you went to preschool that Thursday, you expected another playdate. Sorry kiddo, can't do it every day! However, Papa Eric called me the day before preschool the next week and invited Bodey over to play with you two (Papa Eric is your best friend, I'm sure we'll have more on that in another post). So, after a few texts back and forth with Bodey's mom, we had arrangements to bring Bodey home from preschool with us, feed you two, and Papa Eric would come pick you boys up. I had no idea what Papa had in store.
Apparently Papa had arranged a "day camp." He had it all planned out. The anticipation of all the toys and a friend to play with was too much and unfortunately not much lunch was eaten, so I bagged up your sandwiches and sent you boys with a bag of toys and food out the door to the swing set to wait for Papa's arrival. Papa showed up, Rzr, trailer, small tent, and snacks, in all their glory. The rest of the day is summarized below.

After a few fun hours up at camp, it was time to load up and head back down to Nana and Papa's house. It's hunting season and some people were coming hunting in the afternoon, so the time in the woods was over. Back to the old farm house to play with even more toys and check out Papa E
ric's tractors.
That was another fun day and solidified your smitten-ess for each other. Clearly, two peas in a pod. You played together all day, again, and not even an argument. You're on the same page. Tractors, construction equipment, serious business.
Since those play dates with Bodey, we have run into his family two more times, in a week. And almost every morning you tell me that you miss your friend Bodey.

I'm so glad you have found someone that shares your passion for playing and that you guys get along so well. I can't help but think it is from growing up on farms and having awesome moms. It might just be a coincidence, but I'm betting on the other. I can't wait to see what the years ahead have in store for you and your preschool friend. We all love watching the two of you grow your friendship and have so much fun together. Love you bug.
Love,
Mommy
